Four Benefits of Cottage Cheese

Cottage cheese is one of those foods that many people think is fattening because of its rich, creaminess. However, it is actual a low calorie food, especially when eating the low-fat or non-fat types of cottage cheese. A one-cup serving has approximately 100-220 calories depending on the milkfat percentage that you buy.

Additionally, it is very high in protein. It contains casein protein that helps you keep fuller for a longer period of time because it sticks in your system. A cup of cottage cheese can have as much as 28 grams of protein. This is almost equivelent to eating something like a portion of chicken in terms of protein. One cup may seem like a small serving size, but it will satisfy most people for hours without having to grab a snack or another meal.

Cottage cheese is derived from milk so it is naturally high in calcium. Of course, calcium helps keep your bones strong. High calcium diets have been shown to potentially promote weight loss in people who routinely intak high calcium levels.

The best part of eating cottage cheese is that it is easy to prepare. Simply pull it out of the refrigerator, grab a bowl and spoon and you are ready to eat. Cottage cheese goes with many toppings like fruit, nuts, veggies, and much more. Furthermore, there are hundreds of recipes that call for cottage cheese as an ingredient or it can be substituted for higher calories ingredients like ricotta cheese.
